Queen Elizabeth I was Henry VIII’s daughter. She reigned in the late 16th-early 17th century period. She was known as “the virgin queen” since she was single. She was a protector of arts and science. During her reign, English sailors discovered many unknown lands. |
Charles Dickens was a 19th century English writer. He wrote novels such as Oliver Twist or David Copperfield, as well as A Christmas Carol (a tale). When he was a child, he lived in poverty for a while and had to work. It inspired him for his books. |

Winston Churchill was an English statesman. He was the Prime Minister during WW II. He was also a writer (he was awarded the Nobel prize for literature). He was skilled in painting too. He died in 1965. |
Agatha Christie was a world-famous novelist who wrote detective stories such as And Then There Were None (a.k.a. Ten Little Niggers, which is the US title), Murder On The Orient Express, The Body In The Library, etc. She published seventy-six books between the 1920s and her death in 1976, and sold billions of copies. She created the well-known characters of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. She was nicknamed “the Queen of crime”. |
